Disney+ Plans Vertical Video Feed to Compete With Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts

Disney+ Plans Vertical Video Feed to Compete With Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts

Disney+ has announced plans to introduce a vertical video feed on its streaming platform, aiming to attract younger audiences and boost daily engagement. The announcement was made during Disney’s Tech + Data Showcase at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. With this move, Disney+ is looking to keep pace with short-form video platforms such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.

The company confirmed that vertical video support will roll out in the US later this year. Disney says the decision follows the positive response to “Verts,” a vertical video section launched on the ESPN app in 2025.

Speaking to Deadline, Erin Teague, EVP of product management for Disney Entertainment and ESPN, explained that the vertical feed could feature a mix of original short-form content, adapted social media clips, and reworked scenes from movies or TV series. The goal is to create a personalised and constantly updated feed across both news and entertainment.

Teague also highlighted that short, vertical videos help build daily viewing habits. She noted that Disney does not plan to use this format solely as promotion for longer shows, but as a standalone experience designed for frequent use. According to her, Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences increasingly expect this type of content when using digital platforms.
