Respawn Developing Final Star Wars Jedi Trilogy Game, EA Confirms

EA confirms Respawn is developing the final chapter of the Star Wars Jedi trilogy, concluding Cal Kestis' epic journey.

Respawn Entertainment is officially developing the third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series, as confirmed by publisher Electronic Arts during its Investor Day 2024 conference. EA announced that this "final chapter" will conclude the journey of Jedi knight Cal Kestis, following 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

Laura Miele, EA's President of Entertainment and Technology, revealed that Respawn is already hard at work on the final chapter of the series. While no release date was shared, Miele expressed excitement about Respawn’s progress. She highlighted EA’s successful partnership with Lucasfilm and the Star Wars brand, noting that their Star Wars games have collectively generated over $5 billion in net bookings.

Since acquiring exclusive rights to develop Star Wars games for consoles and PC in 2013, EA has delivered hits like Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars: Squadrons, and the Star Wars Jedi series. However, the exclusivity period has now ended.

Before Jedi: Survivor launched, director Stig Asmussen had envisioned Cal Kestis’ story as a trilogy. Although Asmussen has since left Respawn to start his own studio, his original vision is moving forward. Actor Cameron Monaghan, who portrays Cal Kestis, confirmed during Comic Con 2023 that development on the third game is well underway.

The Star Wars Jedi series chronicles Cal Kestis’ growth from a young Padawan who survived the Jedi purge to a powerful Jedi Knight seeking to restore the order with the help of his friends. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the second game, debuted on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X in 2023, with a PS4 and Xbox One release following in 2024.
