Google Photos is enhancing its transparency measures by adding labels to images edited using AI tools. With AI-driven photo editing becoming increasingly common, Google aims to help users clearly distinguish between naturally captured images and those modified with features like Magic Editor and Best Take. Beginning next week, users will find an “AI Info” section in the metadata of edited images, detailing whether a generative AI was used - indicating significant alterations - or if the image was refined through composite edits like blending multiple shots.
This update underscores Google’s dedication to ethical AI practices by making AI-driven modifications more visible, though the company has yet to fully adopt the C2PA standards for comprehensive content tracking.
