Nothing Phone 1 Gets Nothing OS 2 Update: Enhanced Home Screen and App Management

Nothing Phone 1 receives an upgrade to Nothing OS 2, as confirmed by CEO and Founder Carl Pei. This update introduces features from the latest Nothing Phone 2 to the initial model, launched last year. It enhances the home screen, widgets, and adds new app management options. The rollout will take place gradually over the upcoming days.

Pei's announcement of Nothing OS 2's release for the first-gen Nothing Phone 1 was made on X (formerly Twitter). The update, a 0.97GB download, requires a Wi-Fi connection and sufficient battery charge. Notably, the update introduces two app management features: app cloning and an app locker. These functionalities, first seen on Nothing Phone 2, allow users to clone apps like WhatsApp and secure specific apps from unauthorized access.

The Nothing OS 2 update also unveils an updated Glyph interface, allowing persistent notifications for crucial apps. Furthermore, the torch option in the quick settings menu now illuminates the entire Glyph interface. The user interface of Phone 1 is refreshed, offering new home screen grid layouts and the ability to hide icon labels, mimicking features of third-party "launcher" apps.

Customization options expand with new folder layouts and covers. Adding clock, weather, and Quick Look widgets to the home screen becomes possible after updating to the latest software version. If the OS 2 update notification is absent, users can manually check in Settings > System Update to initiate the process. Download and install the update by tapping the blue button, followed by a restart.
