Apple is anticipated to introduce a smarter, AI-powered Siri, leveraging its Apple Intelligence suite for iPhone. According to reports, this upgraded Siri may arrive with the iOS 18.3 update, potentially ahead of schedule. It's expected to integrate with Apple Intelligence features, which will debut with the iOS 18.1 update next month, offering tools like text generation and web page summarization.
Apple first showcased its evolving Apple Intelligence at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Some features have already been tested in beta, but the new Siri has yet to be revealed. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, however, that could soon change.
In his Power On newsletter, Gurman suggests the new Siri may debut with iOS 18.3, likely by January 2025. While originally slated for iOS 18.4, it now appears Apple is fast-tracking some features. However, not all of Siri’s new functionalities will arrive with the 18.3 update, with some planned for iOS 18.4, scheduled for March 2025.
One of the most exciting updates is Siri's ability to understand natural language and interpret vague requests, tapping into Apple’s AI models for deeper contextual understanding. Siri will also become more integrated with native Apple apps, enabling hands-free control using voice prompts. Additionally, iOS 18 gives Siri a fresh look, with glowing screen edges upon activation and expanded text input capabilities via the new Type to Siri feature.
