Meta Platforms announced exciting updates for its Ray-Ban Meta Glasses during the Connect event on Wednesday. A key highlight is the introduction of real-time video capabilities, allowing users to query information about landmarks and other places they see. Additionally, new wake-up commands make it easier to interact with Meta AI, the company's intelligent assistant, enhancing the overall user experience.
According to a blog post, Ray-Ban Meta Glasses now support the "Hey Meta" wake-up command, enabling users to ask follow-up questions without needing to repeat the prompt. The update also eliminates the need for the "look and" command, previously used for general Q&A conversations or to identify objects in the user's view.
Users can now set reminders through voice commands, such as remembering where they parked their car at the airport. The glasses also feature video capabilities, acting as a virtual tour guide. For instance, users can ask the glasses to identify landmarks in real-time or suggest recipes based on ingredients while grocery shopping.
Meta is also expanding partnerships with Spotify and Amazon Music, adding new collaborations with Audible and iHeart, allowing users to search for tracks and receive detailed information via the glasses.
Alongside the software updates, Meta introduced a special edition of the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses called Shiny Transparent. As the name implies, these glasses feature a transparent design showcasing some internal components. They come with EssilorLuxottica’s new UltraTransitions GEN S lenses and offer Clear to Sapphire Transitions lens color options. However, the special edition glasses are only available in Standard size, priced at $429.
